Thankfully, though, there's still half a season of \"Resident Alien\" to come Wednesday (Aug. 10), and Season 3 of \"Star Trek: Lower Decks\" will kick off the fall. Sadly, the waning summer also means that the impressive third season of \"The Orville\" wrapped up this week.

Have the impressive sets at Fox Studios Century City been taken down Probably. Have they been destroyed Probably not. Does Hulu realize what an amazing show it has More than likely. Does MacFarlane actually want to do another season That's the all-important question.

However, despite the fate of \"The Orville\" being uncertain at the end of the second season, in April 2019, it only took a month or so for it to get officially renewed for the third season. Time will ultimately tell.

This third season has offered us the very best of \"The Orville\" universe, with Episode 3 \"Mortality Paradox\" earning the very first 10/10 awarded by this publication. We dived headfirst into some incredible story followups from earlier seasons, including the return of both the former Krill deep cover agent Tyler/Teleya (Michaela McManus) and even Laura Huggins (Leighton Meester), the latter of whom is Lt. Gordon Malloy's (Scott Grimes) romantic interest from across time.

The second season finale, entitled \"The Road Not Taken\" (S02, E14) was an amazing journey into an alt-history series of events; while this third season conclusion isn't quite the same white-knuckle ride, it opens up some very interesting new possibilities. It even ties up a few threads along the way.

As you can see, there has been a significant increase in the quality and the scale of the action this season, which is a great sign. Hopefully, this level of production stays throughout the entire run.

While creator MacFarlane posted a personal message on Twitter to mark Macdonald's death, it was confirmed that his voice will be heard in the new season as he completed his recordings before he passed away.

The sci-fi series will see its third season premiering on Hulu exclusively, and will provide Macdonald's fans with just one more burst of his comic timing, even if he isn't seen on screen. The 61 year old was remembered by MacFarlane who said, \"To so many people in comedy, me included, there was nobody funnier than Norm MacDonald. Macdonald is credited with appearing in 17 of the 20 episodes that made up seasons one and two, so it is expected that we will be hearing his voice quite a bit in what will be his final outing.

Following his work on Saturday Night Live, Macdonald had his own show, The Norm Show,and along with many other roles and his own Netflix talkshow, he wound up working with Seth MacFarlane on The Orville. As his final role, many fans will be happy to hear his voice just one more time when the series comes to Hulu for its new season.

Most of the cast and crew are expected to be on set after Thanksgiving weekend for rehearsals and to do some pick-up shots. Production will continue through December until the Christmas and New Year break, and then restart in early January.

It is expected that work under strict COVID protocols to complete season three will take five or six months in total. Production will restart on the Fox lot, with location shooting in Southern California also being planned. The Orville creator/executive producer Seth MacFarlane and executive producer Jon Cassar will continue to split directing duties for the rest of the season.

Personally I think 1st season The Orville made it perfectly clear that a Trek comedy absolutely could work. Their only mistake was it should have leaned more on the comedy and yet in season 2 they went more towards drama and all but completely dropped the comedy.
