VB6 used MSComm32.ocx; this was a 32 bit version of MSComm16.ocx both of these components worked fairly well. I say fairly as the interrupt handler of the control CommEvents never worked as quickly or as well as I was expecting it to. I found the only sure fire way was to poll it with a loop or timer (and possibly lock the system, bless DoEvents!) another point worth noting was the limit of 16 Serial Ports (I have used 9 on a test rig using MSComm and was getting a bit worried in case there was another set of devices!) Thankfully, the Net Serial Class lifted it 255. This all changed with the release of .NET1 serial comms were over looked (for reasons that were not clear, I presume it was something to do with security). This gave two ways around it. This gave the option of using Dos to create and print to a (virtual) device or import the OCX (this was in the height of .NET-COM war). I did do a program for communicating to a high definition video screen using MScomm in Borland C++ Builder (I got it working in the end Cliff! Ha!!) this led to a large executable so not suitable for most applications. Once .NET 2.0 was released, I gave a sigh of relief as this came with a serial port class native to the framework. I started to use C# as well as VB, then dropped VB6 all together.
Handshaking can be none (which is the most common these days). The handshaking was originally used when the speeds were lower and it would cost more time to resend the data, it is used also if a large amount of data is to be sent to ensure it has been correctly received. Detailed above are the available settings from the serial port class. The diagram below shows how to connect up two 9 way D-types for full duplex communication.
This now causes the program when either DTR or RTS is connected to the pins to change the labels back colour. I have found it easiest to run this program with a female socket of the end of a 9 way cable. A piece of wire can then be stroked over the pin solder buckets (casing the labels to change colour from Green to Red and back), this will give some feeling that you achieving something. It should be noted at this point the PC will try to open the default serial port which is default is 9600 Baud, No Parity, One Stop bit and No flow control, the number is decided by the lowest number serial available Com1 if fitted.
The above sets a time limit on actions to the serial port. By default, these are set to infinity but can be set. I have used the Read time out with some radio boards to check they are still in range (if the command to get the serial number of board X times out X is not in range).
Generally, this method while it works for a single serial port that does not change quickly it works, however I have been bitten by this with a test rig someone (I think I know who!!) altered the values in the software of the intervals to make it run quicker and it went very badly wrong (who got the blame!) as the timer component in can be overtaken and ignored by Windows.
Spore is a 2008 life simulation real-time strategy God game developed by Maxis and published by Electronic Arts for Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X. Designed by Will Wright, it covers many genres including action, real-time strategy, and role-playing games. Spore allows a player to control the development of a species from its beginnings as a microscopic organism, through development as an intelligent and social creature, to interstellar exploration as a spacefaring culture. It has drawn wide attention for its massive scope, and its use of open-ended gameplay and procedural generation. Throughout each stage, players are able to use various creators to produce content for their games. These are then automatically uploaded to the online Sporepedia and are accessible by other players for download.
There are two new editors seen in the new expansion Spore Galactic Adventures: these include the captain editor (also called the captain outfitter) and the adventure creator, which enables terraforming and placing objects freely on adventure planets.
Spore Galactic Adventures was released on June 23, 2009. It allows the player's creature to beam onto planets, rather than using a hologram. It also adds an \"Adventure Creator\" which allows for the creation of missions and goals to share with the Spore community. Creatures can add new abilities, including weaponry, tanks, and crew members, as well as a section of the adventure creator that involves editing a planet and using 60 new flora parts.[81]
HW VSP is a software driver that adds a virtual serial port (e.g. COM5) to the operating system and redirects the data from this port via a TCP/IP network to another hardware interface, which is specified by its IP address and port number. HW VSP3 support even NT Services and 64 bit Windows 8 .
HW Virtual Serial Driver is intended primarily for devices produced by HW group, although it can be used for free as a universal driver that creates a virtual remote serial port, which redirects data to a predefined TCP/IP address and port.
In special applications (e.g. involving GPRS devices), the PC with the HW VSP driver can be set to operate in TCP Server mode, enabling the remote device to initialize the connection by sending any data to the remote port. Upon receiving RS-232 data, the converter establishes a connection with the PC and passes the data to the virtual COM port. Therefore, the scenario very closely resembles behavior of a real serial port.
When using HW VSP together with recommended devices produced by HW group, it is possible to change connection speed, parity, and other communication parameters (as well as to control any digital outputs and inputs) remotely on the fly via the RFC-2217 protocol, thus achieving a true remote serial port behavior.
In the previous version, HW VSP was fully transparent to the client software and did not restrict the communication flow in any way. Hence, the client SW had to send the data to the serial port using a defined communication speed, or use flow control (handshake). Otherwise, data were sent to the Ethernet / Internet with the maximum speed possible, often in the 10 Mbps range. When the buffers in VSP filled up, data started to be thrown away. Now, it is possible to enable the Strict Baudrate Emulation option in the Settings tab to ensure that VSP communicates with the client SW using the speed that is currently selected for the port. 153554b96e
