If you have already installed Windows 10, Windows 8.1, Windows 8, or Windows 7 on your Mac using Boot Camp, you can set Parallels Desktop to run Windows from the Boot Camp Partition or import Windows and your data from Boot Camp into Parallels Desktop as a new virtual machine.
UTM employs Apple's Hypervisor virtualization framework to run ARM64 operating systems on Apple Silicon at near native speeds. On Intel Macs, x86/x64 operating system can be virtualized. In addition, lower performance emulation is available to run x86/x64 on Apple Silicon as well as ARM64 on Intel. For developers and enthusiasts, there are dozens of other emulated processors as well including: ARM32, MIPS, PPC, and RISC-V. Your Mac can now truly run anything.
Unlike other free virtualization software, UTM was created for macOS and only for Apple platforms. It is designed completely from the ground up for the new style introduced in Big Sur. UTM looks and feels like a Mac app with all the privacy and security features you expect as well.
No, probably not. UTM does not currently support GPU emulation/virtualization on Windows and therefore lacks support for 3D acceleration (e.g. OpenGL and DirectX). You may be able to run older games with software rendering options, but nothing with hardware acceleration. There is experimental support for hardware OpenGL acceleration on Linux through Virgl.
Yes, VMware Fusion 13 has 3D hardware-accelerated graphics support. On Apple Silicon Macs, Windows 11 graphics are rendered using the host CPU, while Linux VMs can use 3D hardware acceleration. For Windows VMs on Intel Macs, Fusion supports DirectX 11 (with Shader Model 5.0) and earlier. For Linux guests on both Intel and Apple Silicon, Fusion supports OpenGL 4.3. Fusion uses Apple Metal graphics technology to render 3D hardware-accelerated graphics to virtual machines on compatible Mac systems. See VMware Fusion system requirements for details.
Yes. VMware Fusion requires the installation of an operating system in order to function. The operating system is not included with the purchase of VMware Fusion. In order to run a Windows virtual machine, you must have a licensed copy of that Windows operating system or purchase a new Windows license.
You can create an unlimited number of virtual machines from a single VMware Fusion license. You will need to provide the required operating system software and license for each installation of a virtual machine.
If you purchased UTM from the Mac App Store, installation is done for you. If you download the app directly, a disk image file named UTM.dmg appears in your download folder. Open it to mount the disk image. Press the Command Key, then drag the UTM application icon from the disk image to the Applications folder.
Probably the most useful button for new UTM users is Browse UTM Gallery. Click this to display a web page with links to download pages for a number of virtual machines (screenshot above). At this time, ARM native VMs are available for:
I installed the server quickly following the directions, then install Ubuntu Desktop as well to give the virtual machine a friendly non-command-line interface. In less than 15 minutes, everything was up and running:
Thanks for the very detailed step-by-step guide.Looks like the Windows part is no longer relevant. They now have a link to a UUP download which converts the files downloaded into an ISO, which you then can install normally using UTM.
Because even though Monterey has virtualisation built in, maybe you want to virtualise and isolate machines with different OS (like any Linux distro) to do some labs, test stuff, etc, that depends on the OS.
I installed the UTM on my Macbook air m1 and run the ubuntu 20.04 lts on it, but for some reason that I do not know why my keyboard stops to working. Someone knows how can I do to my MacBook Air m1 keyboard functions properly on ubuntu 20.04 its virtualized in UTM
If you want to help us test new builds before they're released, you should download our beta client. Organizations can use the beta client to validate new versions for their users before they're generally available. For more information, see Test the beta client.
You might want to compare the checksums to verify the integrity of downloaded packages. The SHA256 checksums should be favored as the MD5 algorithm must be treated as insecure! SHA256 checksums, MD5 checksums
The binaries in this section for VirtualBox before version 4.0 are all released under the VirtualBox Personal Use and Evaluation License (PUEL). As of VirtualBox 4.0, the Extension Pack is released under the VirtualBox Personal Use and Evaluation License and the other packages (including version 6.1.x) are released under the terms of the GPL version 2. By downloading, you agree to the terms and conditions of the respective license.
The VirtualBox sources are available free of charge under the terms and conditions of the GNU General Public License, Version 3. By downloading from the below links, you agree to these terms and conditions.
Well the good news is that Parallels Desktop 18 has solved these problems that made running the ARM version of Windows so challenging due to it not normally being licensed to individual users. Parallels now includes the ability to download and buy the ARM version of Windows 11 directly within Parallels itself.
For many years, VMware Fusion was in lock-step with Parallels Desktop, with the two rivals releasing regular updates and competing for the top spot in the Mac virtualization market. In recent years, though, VMware seems to have taken its foot off the pedal and has allowed Fusion to fall behind a bit (in fact, you actually have to dig around quite a bit simply to find Fusion on VMware web site these days).
Windows 365 (which launched in July 2021) has the potential to really challenge traditional virtualization programs such as Parallels Desktop and VMware Fusion. However, at the moment, Windows 365 is still pretty expensive and is very much aimed at large corporate users, rather than the individuals and smaller businesses that tend to use Parallels and Fusion.
Using dual-boot rather than virtualization technology, Boot Camp provides the best performance for Intel-based Macs that need to run Windows. (As we explained above, the M1/M2-based Macs do not offer Boot Camp).
When you open an online-only file, it downloads to your device and becomes a locally available file. You can open a locally available file anytime, even without internet access. If you need more space, you can change the file back to online only. Just right-click the file and select Free up space.
New files or folders created online or on another device appear as online-only to save maximum space. However, if you mark a folder as \"Always keep on this device,\" new files in that folder download to your device as always available files.
Yes, you can move online-only files within your OneDrive folder for that OneDrive account. When you move files outside that OneDrive folder, the files download to the new folder and are removed from your OneDrive. If you accidentally delete something, you can restore files or folders by going to your OneDrive recycle bin.
To avoid this delay, you can force the system to pre-create all these files and folders for you without downloading your content. To do this, open a Terminal window and type \"ls -alR /OneDrive\" (or the path to your OneDrive). This will ensure your files and folders are created, but not downloaded, before you browse.
By default, UTM is set up to install Windows 10 or higher, and install drivers and SPICE tools, which are necessary for smooth use of your Windows VM. Check Import VHDX Image, then click Browse in the Boot ISO Image section, and select the disk image for Windows that you downloaded. Click Continue.
be sure to check all meeting and account settings to be sure you have turned on the feature to allow you to use virtual backgrounds... -us/articles/210707503-Changing-your-Virtual-Background-image
I have the exact same MacBook Pro and processor as you (updated OS to Big Sur) and also do not have a blurred background option. I also cannot use a virtual background. I was able to add photos to be used as virtual backgrounds but when I click on them (or any of the standard virtual backgrounds that come with Zoom) I get a message that says \"Your device requires a green screen to support virtual backgrounds.\" What is the solution
I have the same concern as everyone here. I can't use the blurred background. Can Zoom just facilitate this function In our office, I feel sad that only we, MacBook Air users, couldn't apply the blurred virtual background. Just make it available already, please.
I have found a short term fix: join a zoom meeting from your browser instead of from the desktop app, and I have the ability to tick the blur option. I seem to meet all requirements for a virtual background except that my Mac is not a 6th generation processor. To Zoom team, it makes NO sense that I can have a blurred option on my browser and not on my desktop, it is the same device/camera! 153554b96e
