From Pripyat, a deserted area after the nuclear disaster, Attenborough gives an overview of his life. Interspersed with footage of his career and of a wide variety of ecosystems, he narrates key moments in his career and indicators of how the planet has changed since he was born in 1926. As a child, Attenborough enjoyed studying fossils. His documentary career began in the 1950s when he began working for the BBC, a British public service broadcaster. He visited places such as the African Serengeti, in which native animals require vast areas of land to maintain grazing patterns. Over time, he noticed a decline in wildlife when searching for fish or orangutans in Borneo or other animals which he was looking for as part of his documentaries. Areas of the Arctic or Antarctic were different to what the filming crew expected due to ice caps melting. The causes are anthropogenic climate change and biodiversity loss pushing the planet towards a sixth mass extinction event over a period of centuries rather than the hundreds of millennia that built up to previous mass extinctions.
Attenborough describes the film as his \"witness statement\" and gives an impression of what could happen to the planet over the course of a lifetime beginning in 2020 and lasting as long as his own, were human activity to continue unchanged. The Amazon rainforest could degrade into a savanna; the Arctic could lose all ice during summer; coral reefs could die; soil overuse could cause food crises. These irreversible events would cause mass extinction and exacerbate climate change further.

In his 94 years, David Attenborough has visited every continent on the globe, exploring the wild places of our planet and documenting the living world in all its variety and wonder. Now, for the first time he reflects upon both the defining moments of his lifetime as a naturalist and the devastating changes he has seen.
David Attenborough has spent his life documenting and exploring nature. He can be credited with bringing the uniqueness of our planet to living rooms everywhere, giving insight to the wonder and importance of nature. In his 96 years of life, Attenborough has witnessed the ways our world has changed up close.
Towards the end of the film, Attenborough presents some specific ideas on how we can live a sustainable life again. Here are the five main things we need to do, according to him, in order to slow global warming and preserve the wild spaces and biodiversity on our planet.
Attenborough has visited every continent on the globe, exploring the wild places of our planet and documenting the living world in all its variety and wonder. His feature documentary released late last year, David Attenborough: A Life On Our Planet, was his witness statement to share the most important message of his life in what is, perhaps, his most personal documentary to date.
This truth defined the life we led in our pre-history, the time before farming and civilization. Even as some of us were setting foot on the moon, others were still leading such a life in the most remote parts of the planet.
Sir David Attenborough: I know it sounds like a publicist slogan, but it is the greatest story ever told. It's the story of how life developed on this planet and led to you and me sitting here, talking across an ocean.
Sir David also wants to see what he calls a \"rewilding\" of the planet, giving plants and animals on land and in the ocean time and space to bounce back. The World Wildlife Fund says that two thirds of the earth's wildlife has disappeared in the past 50 years.
In tones often nostalgic or elegaic, Attenborough reviews his own life and the parallel crisis unfolding in our ecosystem. As he reminisces about collecting fossils in the England of his childhood and meeting isolated tribespeople in remote jungles as an adult and then becoming aware of habitat loss and species on the brink of extinction, he reminds us that nature is interconnected and that our survival hinges on the health of the other creatures who inhabit this planet. Then he shows us how our actions endanger the entire planet, with particular emphasis on deforestation, overfishing, and habitat loss that decimates animal life, with compounding effects on the ecosystem.
Meanwhile near the documentary's end, Attenborough makes a statement that is bound to make people take note: when we talk about saving our planet, he says, what we're really talking about is saving humanity. Our planet has survived five mass extinctions before, and it will be around for a long time after it becomes inhospitable for humans too - the early signs of wildlife returning to Chernobyl is testament to that. Maybe if we reframed the crisis as a chance to save ourselves, people would be more desperate to fight for the improvements outlined above.
Produced by award-winning wildlife filmmakers Silverback Films and global environmental organization WWF, this unique feature documentary tells the story of life on our planet by the man who has seen more of the natural world than any other. In more than 90 years, Attenborough has visited every continent on the globe, exploring the wild places of our planet and documenting the living world in all its variety and wonder. Addressing the biggest challenges facing life on our planet, the film offers a powerful message of hope for future generations.
I haven't seen any of David Attenborough's films yet, however., I apreciated this thriller in the way he explains his vision about to take care the planet life thought the work together (animals, plants and humans) with the finality to avoid a disaster. I think its important for us to take care about the live we want to leave for the next generations.
Netflix has released a 1 hour 17 minute (without credits) documentary which focuses on how Sir David Attenborough has witness the planet changing over his life time - some important links are made to key concepts within Ecology unit of the AQA GCSE Biology course.
I am 93. I've had an extraordinary life. It's only now that I appreciate how extraordinary. As a young man, I felt I was out there in the wild, experiencing the untouched natural world - but it was an illusion. The tragedy of our time has been happening all around us, barely noticeable from day to day - the loss of our planet's wild places, its biodiversity. I have been witness to this decline. A Life on Our Planet is my witness statement and my vision for the future. It is the story of how we came to make this, our greatest mistake - and how, if we act now, we can yet put it right. 781b155fdc
