One can only hope brighter days are on the horizon for BoJack following treatment, but if fans have learned anything about the fallen star, it's BoJack's habit of taking two steps back for every one he takes forward. But he seems to be taking rehab at the Malibu-based "Pastiches" center somewhat seriously in the trailer for the sixth and final season of the show, which releases on Netflix on Friday.

He's been a nuisance and an alcoholic from the very beginning, but the full scope of his addiction to painkillers came out during Season 5. Early on in that season, after his sister HollyHock flushed his pills, he deliberately crashed a car so he could be hospitalized and get a new prescription. In the Season 5 finale, BoJack seemed to see himself for the drugged-out monster he's become and decided to do something about it.

BoJack Horseman season 5 is finally on Netflix, bringing back the incredible voice cast (including several surprise returns), as well as some new characters and celebrity guests. The show has always stood apart for the range of talent it gets in every level of the series, and the new run is no different.

What is different in BoJack Horseman season 5 is the mental state of its main character. BoJack is the star of new streaming series Philbert, a hard-boiled detective show riffing on many a Peak TV critical darling (most pointedly True Detective), something that gives him a rare sense of stability. However, that only leads to introspection and the dark secrets of his past bubble up. This happens as Todd climbs the corporate ranks, Diane and Mr. Peanutbutter deal with separation while working on the same show, and Princess Carolyn juggles the professional and personal. It's a season about relationships and the lines between our different lives.

But, for all the existential fear, this is still a comedy. Yes, BoJack Horseman can be fun, especially when it's bringing out an exciting array of fresh and familiar voices. Here's everybody you'll meet in season 5.

Aaron Paul as Todd Chavez: Master of the wacky-scheme, Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad, Need For Speed) voices Todd. Now living with Princess Carolyn, Todd's season 5 adventures involve asexuality and ad sales.

Rami Malek as Flip McVicker: Mr. Robot's Rami Malek becomes a regular on BoJack Horseman after a brief appearance last season. He plays Philbert writer Flip, sounding very different to how he will in November's Bohemian Rhapsody.

BoJack Horseman's handler had a bit of a SNAFU earlier today. The title star, pushed by fans on social media and likely nudged by prescription drugs and mid-shelf alcohol, revealed the premiere date of the award-winning Netflix series' return for Season 5. In an effort to smooth things over, Netflix also revealed the first image from the new season in which things get pretty painful for BoJack.

But the end of the season leaves us with a bittersweet feeling for both her and Bojack. When he shows up at her doorstep, it leads to Diane dropping him off at rehab to being the process of putting himself first and figuring out how to deal with all his problems.

Season 4 of Bojack Horseman saw our obnoxious antihero take on the reigns of fatherhood, only to prove just as terrible at the job as his parents. Luckily for the titular horse, the big season reveal downgraded him to half-brother, a role he is slightly less terrible at, and Bojack ended the season with a commitment to improving himself, not only for him, but for his new family member.

When Gina finally finds his stash, Bojack breaks, doped up and deluded, strangling Gina on-camera to the point where he almost kills her. And here is where the season has the most profound point on #MeToo - Bojack has just done something outright unforgivable, yet the show must go on.

Throughout the season, Diane has struggled with the morality of her new writing role, unsure if her contribution to Philbert" actually made a toxic idea more palatable to the public. Is she telling a good story, or simply normalizing terrible behavior? At one point, Bojack even uses the character to excuse his own failings, but is that the full story?

At a red carpet premiere, the first season of Philbert is well-received and a second season is quickly confirmed. In several scenes near the end of BoJack Season 5 we see the cast of Philbert shooting new material. Somewhat surprisingly, against a backdrop of post-apocalyptic Hollywood life seems to just go on. The only difference is that now food deliveries just take a lot longer.

Rule #1 of being BoJack: never give the fans what they want until they annoy you to death. So rather than respond to the endless questions pleading for the date of Season 5, we focused on sharing original illustrations of BoJack living his best Hollywoo celebrity life, from participating in trending social conversations to messaging a ton of celebrities if they wanted to smoke weed. But regardless of what we posted, the response was always the same: desperate requests for when the next season was coming.

Nestled in Emmys season as we are, this is a worthwhile moment to explore a minor injustice: Given the amount of effort Netflix has put into pushing basically its entire slate for Emmy recognition, and given the reasonable amount of success that Netflix has experienced in earning nominations for a wide variety of shows, how is it possible that BoJack Horseman has had such a hard time making any sort of Emmy ripple?

The fifth season of BoJack Horseman further cements the program as one of the best on Netflix. With each season surpassing the latter by building upon strengths and exploring new territories, season five expands on this and certainly delivers.

The show is a Netflix original and exclusive to the streaming service, who choose to broadcast all the episodes of the season at once. For viewers with jobs, partners, things to do and self-respect, this is a blessing. One episode can be taken in after a long day at work, or curled up on the sofa with a significant other.

In particular, the emphasis on various characters and the novel means of storytelling used show the season trying hard to keep episodes distinct, while exploring ideas and using voices to an otherwise-impossible degree. Not everything works, but enough does that the season feels fresher as a result.

It's not clear if the fifth season of BoJack Horseman was going to be announced today or not, but a fan of the Netflix animated comedy asked the official show Twitter account when we can all expect to see Season 5. Apparently, this is a pretty common occurrence, which prompted a quick response. The response nonchalantly announced that BoJack Horseman is returning this September and then asked to not be bothered about the matter again. The response reads.

As previously mentioned, the Season 5 BoJack Horseman image features the character wounded from a gunshot, while wearing a badge. Is BoJack a detective in the new season? Who is the lizard woman that shot him, and why did he get shot? Is it a dream sequence? This has led to speculation that Season 5 will go off on a time jumping detour like the previous season. It's also entirely possible that the alcoholic horse is trying to get his acting career off of the ground again, which would make for some pretty interesting storylines. 781b155fdc
