It is a pity that this Lovers and Pets compilation, consists of 12 songs only. It comprises tracks from some albums of I Dik Dik (only the second edition of l'olca dell'olmo and the first edition of Il Mi Stronzo), from two albums of Pasolini's and from two albums of Cosimo Destri and Pinuccio Blum. Some artists were recording songs with the same names for over 20 years. All I know is that they were all released in 1969. Certainly, not any of them are world famous. All I can say is that only with the help of I Dik Dik we have begun to recognize the importance of these artists and bands.

This is a sort of demonstration of the difficulty of compiling a true prog collection, let alone a collection of prog tracks from Italian artists. It is a difficult task, since I Dik Dik was the first attempt to compile a collection of Italian prog groups and, as I said, there are many obscure bands who did not record any albums.

I am well aware that there are other compilations which include a fair number of progressive tracks. I have already mentioned that the third edition of L'Occema Olmo is worthwhile, since it, includes six progressive tracks, while Procol Harum was the first, maybe the first, prog that I ever listened to.

But, the list below is much more restricted than these other compilations of progressive Italian tracks. Sometimes an album of a forgotten band is more valuable than a compendium of tracks, all or part of which may have been recorded by another band in the same year or even in another year.

There are many albums released in 1969 which are not included in the list below; of course, some of these were made on vinyl, others on tapes. Some of these were released by small Italian labels, but others were released by the major labels. I have listed the major labels anyway: These include the major labels of Parlophone, Decca, Columbia, RCA and Oriana.
