This project was a great learning tool for my students to learn about the Influenza outbreak and to practice reading and understanding data from a news article. It's also an excellent way to introduce the field of epidemiology.
The coding is pretty easy. Students go to the website, Influenza Virus Home , to read a sample news article on influenza that includes some data and information about the outbreak. Students enter this information into the interface and can see if their predictions match with the data.

The game is designed to simulate a typical flu season in a city-state. The game is comprised of two separate games: the Hotline game and the Zombie game. In this project, I will be explaining how the Hotline Game is played, so the game is completely player-centered. I will be explaining the game to the students and then have them complete the game with me. I will also be describing the Zombie game and asking them to complete the Zombie game.
We are studying about the 2013–2014 Ebola outbreak , which was the deadliest in history. It started in Guinea and spread to neighboring countries. Eventually, it ended in West Africa, but not before causing a huge outbreak in Texas.
Below is a quick example of a result. The first column is the number of episodes, the next two columns are the survival rate and the zombie count. In this graph, the survival rate is changing from 0.7 to 0.8, and the zombie count is changing from 200 to 500.
